FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a portable reader for decoding bar codes with recording of date, time and coordinates of point of scanning. Method comprises assigning individual numbers to each unit product in alphanumeric form, and then assigned individual number is converted into a bar code containing a unique number, further surface of article is coated with bar code to obtain a label, which is entered in a database of information, wherein reading and decoding of bar code is carried out with simultaneous reception and recording of current time, date, and geographical coordinates of scanning point.

EFFECT: technical result is performing reading and decoding of bar codes with simultaneous determination of time and place of scanning, which increases efficiency of identifying items.
