FIELD: medical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for lighting equipment and medicine. Wavelength converting material comprises a compound of formula (Y1-w-x-y-zScwLaxGdyLuz)2-a(SO4)3: Mea, where Me - a trivalent cation or mixture of trivalent cations, capable of emitting UV-C radiation, for example, Pr3+, Nd3+ and Bi3+; each of w, x, y and z is in range from 0.0 to 1.0; w + x + y + z ≤ 10; 0.0005 ≤ a ≤ 0.2. Said material is obtained by reacting Y, Lu, Sc, La or Gd oxide with a sulphate or ferric cation in a medium containing sulphuric acid which is then removed. Obtained material was used in wavelength converting coatings or screens, or medical devices, lighting, ultraviolet lighting, sterilisation, disinfection or cleaning. Lighting device is a discharge lamp comprising a discharge vessel containing a gas, which includes one or more of Ar, Kr, Xe, F2, Cl2, Br2 and I2, wherein at least a portion of wall of discharge vessel is provided with said material. Medical device is a phototherapeutic device or cosmetic treatment. Method of producing material is simple and uses available starting materials.
EFFECT: thermostable resulting material has a high quantum yield.
