SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to methods for producing and preparing electrode pitch intended for production of anode mass, coal and graphitised products, carbon structural materials, and can be used in coke-chemical or petroleum refining industry. Method for preparing a binder for production of carbon materials and products made of them comprises mixing coal tar and petroleum refining liquid product having a density at 20 °C is not less than 1.02 g/cm³; viscosity at 100 °C is not more than 20 cSt; coking ability of not less than 5 %; stripping fraction boiling below 300 °C, no more than 5 %, in a ratio of 85:15 to 50:50 wt%, heat treating resultant mixture at 410-430 °C in liquid phase with separation of distillate fractions and undistillable distillate residue and air oxidation of undistillable distillation residue at 325-360 °C and air supply rate of 20-54 l/kg of pitch.

EFFECT: proposed method allows to obtain binder pitch suitable for production of anode mass.
