SUBSTANCE: invention relates to solid state physics, and is intended to study electronic structure of surface of metals. Sample of solid metal is brought into contact with ionic liquid, supplying to ionic liquid an additional electrode, using said electrode to set potential of sample relative to reference electrode, passing through boundary of said sample with ionic liquid alternating current with fixed amplitude with preset frequency, recording so-called estance of derivative of surface tension of solid metal from charge surface density of solid metal, solid metal charge surface density is changed by changing potential of sample with time and obtaining of oscillograms of estance with continuous scanning potential in anode direction, as well as zigzag scanning in anode direction, in range of potential, passed by zigzag scanning area, finding area of stance reversibility and in said area on oscillogram with continuous scanning finding one or more stance waves, found stance waves are considered as a result of elimination of electronic zones of metal surface as negative charge of metal surface, number of found stance waves is considered to be equal to number of excluded electronic zones of metal surface.
