FIELD: physics and chemistry of surface phenomena, determination of parameters of double electric layer on boundary of phases. SUBSTANCE: process includes measurement of potential of one phase with reference to another and seeking for minimum of differential capacitance of boundary of phases. Value of potential corresponding to inflection point on dependence of differential capacitance on potential is found and used to evaluate potential of minimum of differential capacitance and composition of interphase layer. Alternating current of fixed amplitude is let pass through boundary of phases, second harmonic of potential is recorded, its amplitude is measured as function of average value of potential and potentials of inflection points and of minimum of differential capacitance are found by positions of extremum and zero of this function. Interval between potentials of inflection points and minimum of differential capacitance is determined and determined interval is compared with value 6RT/F, where R is gas constant, F is Faraday constant, T is absolute temperature of phases, and is used to evaluate charge of excess ion participating in formation of double electric layer on boundary of phases.
