SUBSTANCE: invention relates to visual aids for metal surfaces electronic state studying. Investigated metal plate is brought into contact with ionic liquid, changing plate potential relative to reference electrode, recording first and second derivatives of investigated metal surface tension by charge surface density. Determining potential, corresponding to zero of surface tension first derivative, and by surface tension second derivative finding dimensionless inclination of surface tension first derivative dependence on potential. Finding said dimensionless inclination modulus maximum value. In cathode direction from zero of surface tension first derivative finding potential, corresponding to half of dimensionless inclination modulus drop from maximum value to one. Difference between surface tension derivative zero potential and obtained transition potential is due to spontaneous conductivity electrons deficiency in surface layer of metal at zero potential charge.
EFFECT: technical result is expansion of range of electrons concentration change in metal, possibility of metal-insulator transition detecting in metal surface layer, carrying excess charge.
