SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a side airbag for a vehicle. In its inflated and expanded state side airbag 20 its forward part 32B, which is provided in the upper portion of the rear cushion portion 32, extends from the shoulder portion S of the seated passenger P toward the front side of the vehicle and located above front portion 30 of the cushion. Size in the vehicle width direction of stretching forward part 32B is set smaller than front portion 30 of the cushion, and an inner side surface in the vehicle width direction in an upper edge of front portion 30 of the cushion is inclined or curved so that it rises being directed to the outside in the transverse direction of the vehicle. An upper hand portion of passenger P is pressed upward due to the sliding contact with the surface. Furthermore, even when seated passenger P moves by inertia at an angle towards the front of the vehicle, the shoulder part S can be retained by stretching forward part 32B.
EFFECT: provides increased security by the fact that the accommodation is not allowed resultant upper arm part of the seated passenger is between the chest of the seated passenger and side airbags, and a well-kept shoulder portion of the seated passenger irrespective of the form of a side collision.
