FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of determining rheological properties of materials by means of stripping gas chromatography and can be used for accurate determination of softening temperature of heavy oil products and their narrow fractions, including oil fractions and coal pitch, bitumen, asphalt, cracking residues, fuel oil etc. Method of determining softening temperature of petroleum pitch and its fractions involves heating sample material and determination of its softening temperature by stripping gas chromatography using a column filled with oil pitch or narrow fractions of petroleum pitch, deposited on solid inert carrier. Method then includes adding, to column filled with analysed pitch, an organic compound as a test of sorbates, softening temperature of coal tar or its fractions is determined by minimum on curve of logarithm of specific retained volume of sorbates versus inverse of temperature.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining melting point for a wide range of oil products.
