FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to a method of cooling a work roll of the rolling mill of hot rolling. Method includes the step of supplying a coolant through at least one nozzle into the gap between at least a part of the surface of a cooling roll and a liner installed at a part of the surface of the roll, and the regulation of the gap between the cooling jacket and the roll surface. Adjusting the gap includes either pressure measurement or measuring the volumetric flow rate of the supplied cooler, while the value of said gap increases with the values of the measured pressure and the measured volume flow of the coolant is above the specified upper limit value and the value of the gap is reduced when the measurement value of said flow rate and pressure of the coolant below given by a lower limit value.
EFFECT: use of the invention enhances the quality of the rolled metal strip.
