FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: method includes cooling both surfaces of thick steel sheet, retained and transported between pairs of retaining rolls, by means of sprayed jets of cooler from group of nozzles in upper/lower surfaces between pairs of retaining rolls. Accuracy of cooling control, evenness of cooling, accordingly, stability of thick steel sheet quality is provided due to the fact that method includes stages of thick steel sheet area separation between pairs of retaining rolls, where groups of upper and lower surface nozzles are installed, into at least area - section of spraying impact and areas - sections without impact of spraying, besides separation is done in direction of thick steel sheet transportation or in direction of thick steel sheet transportation and in direction of its width, including forecasting coefficient of heat transfer for each area produced after separation, calculation of forecasted timing of temperature change in thick steel sheet, and setting and controlling amounts of sprayed cooler in areas - sections of spraying impact, sprayed by groups of upper and lower surface nozzles.

EFFECT: invention is intended to increase stability of shape and mechanical characteristics of sheets.
