FIELD: construction.

SUBSTANCE: flat key (1, 1′) for locking cylinder, especially for locking systems, comprising a key back and a toothed key bit arranged opposite same, for positioning sprung core and housing rods in locking cylinder, comprises respectively at least two grooves (2, 3) on one or both flat sides, said grooves engaging in each other from flat side and overlapping each other with divergent groove directions. Two overlapping grooves (2, 3; 2′, 3′) are undercut in opposite directions in such a way that, as a result of undercuts, in at least one groove (2, 2′), centre (4) of groove base is covered in direction normal to longitudinal central plane (6). Intersection of two grooves (2, 3) provides edge (5) having a traceable position. Overlapping grooves (2, 3; 2′, 3′) can overlap with an opposing groove (42) as a guiding profiled groove in relation to longitudinal central plane (6). Edge (5) inside overlapping grooves (2, 3; 2′, 3′) can be flattened to form a bearing surface (51) for a tracing element (11, 12) in locking cylinder.
