FIELD: engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in in-line internal combustion engines used for motor vehicles. Multi-cylinder in-line internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle, having crankshaft (10), which rotates about its axis (15) during engine operation, a plurality of axially successive cranks (11, 12, 13). Each crank throw (11, 12, 13) to a cylinder (1, 2, 3) is assigned to internal combustion engine. Engine is equipped with compensation device for at least partial compensation of rotating masses on crankshaft (10) induced inertial forces. Compensating device comprises at least two balancing weights (31, 32). There is a device for changing position of at least one of balancing weights (31) relative to crankshaft (10) depending on engine rotational frequency. Disclosed is a method of operating a multi-cylinder in-line internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle.
EFFECT: technical result consists in reduction of frequency of oscillations of a rigid transmission body in direction along vehicle during change of engine rotational frequency.
