FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of helium-neon lasers cold cathodes and can be used in gas-discharge equipment and microelectronics. Method includes heating of cathode billets from aluminium in vacuum of not less than 10-5 mm Hg and subsequent thermal oxidation of its surface, characterised by that cathode billet of chemically pure aluminium is heated in oxygen at rate of 200 °C/h to temperature equal to 300-350 °C, held at this temperature for 1.5 hours and then cooled to room temperature at same rate. Said mode of thermal oxidation provides obtaining acceptable thickness of oxide coating at minimum possible amount of through pores.
EFFECT: increased service life of helium-neon laser cold cathode.
