FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing a polymer. Method includes contacting ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon monomers, which include at least one polyene and at least one olefin, with a catalytic composition containing an alkylating agent and a complex of a lanthanide metal. Complex has general formula where m is a lanthanide metal atom; L is a neutral Lewis base; z is an integer from 0 to 3 inclusive; R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group; each R2 independently denotes H, halogen atom or R1, provided that two or more groups R2 or R1 and one or more groups R2 together with atoms to which each of said groups is bonded can form a ring structure; and each R3 independently denotes H, a halogen atom, substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group, a functional group containing a heteroatom, or both group R3 together with M, to which they both are bonded, form a ring structure. When R1 or R2 is a hydrocarbon group, hydrocarbon group can be substituted with halogen atoms, other hydrocarbon groups, heteroatom-containing groups, wherein said heteroatoms represent O, S, N, B, Al, P, Si, Ge or Sn.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain interpolymers of olefins and polyenes, in particular, conjugated dienes.
