SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of sol-gel method foamed silica gel, which can be used as a fire extinguishing agent at explosion and fire prevention, as well as insulating and filling material in construction and other industries. Foamed silica gel is obtained by air-mechanical foaming mixture of aqueous solution of alkali metal silicate with foaming surfactant and water solution of silica ash formation activator of alkali metal silicate in form of an aqueous solution of acetic acid, muriatic acid or ammonium chloride.

EFFECT: invention provides possibility of its preferred use as fire-extinguishing agent in explosion and fire prevention and other purposes.
