FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of direct melting. Method involves feeding a iron-containing material, (b) solid carbon-containing material and (c) oxygen-containing gas into a reservoir for direct melting containing bath from molten metal and slag. Carrying out direct melting metal-containing material in reservoir with formation of products in form of molten metal, molten slag and flue gas. Method includes adjusting composition and temperature of bath of molten metal to temperature below liquidus temperature of slag so that solid oxide phase is extracted from liquid phase of molten slag and molten slag represents a suspension of solid material and liquid phase and has viscosity in range of 0.5-5 P in operating temperature range of process, and controlling injection of iron-containing material and solid carbon containing material so that FeO content in molten slag is at least 3 wt%.
EFFECT: invention enables to control process for more efficient production of molten metal.
