FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the direct melting process including the process conditions adjustment so that fused melt in the metal and slag pool features the viscosity of approx 0.5-5.0 Poise while the slag temperature in the fused pool makes some 1400-1550°C. Note here that process conditions inside the direct melting process vessel includes the temperature and pressure, the rate of blowing the solid initial materials and oxygen-bearing gas into said vessel. Besides, it includes the composition of molten pool composition including the slag composition and molten pool characteristics. This invention allows melting of titanium-containing materials to get the molten iron product which can contain metal vanadium and slag product that contains at least 50% of titanium oxides as TiO2 which can be used as the stock for sulphate process of production of pigment titanium dioxide.
EFFECT: controlled rate of molten slag cooling to get microstructures that can be processed in the sulphate process.
