FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to melting of metal-containing material in direct melting tank. Melting tank comprises multiple heat pipes (21) arranged in refractory lining of at least part of furnace (9) for cooling at least part of refractory lining. At least one of the heat pipes includes (a) a liquid phase of the heat transfer fluid, preferably water, in the lower section of the heat pipe, and (b) a vapour phase of the heat transfer fluid, preferably steam, in the upper section of the heat pipe. Ventilation valve is provided, which has a tube extending into said heat pipe. Said tube has an open end inside said heat pipe and a closed end located outside said heat pipe.
EFFECT: closed end of the tube is configured to open when the steam pressure or temperature in the heat pipe exceeds a predetermined threshold value of pressure or temperature, to provide evaporation of the vapour phase from the heat pipe and to reduce pressure or temperature inside the heat pipe.
