SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to pumps included in a system for feeding molten metal into a mould, etc, vessel, as well as methods of filling mould with molten aluminium. Molten aluminium pump assembly includes elongated shaft (16) connecting motor (14) to impeller (22). Impeller (22) is housed within chamber (18) of a base member such that rotation of impeller (22) draws molten metal into chamber (18) at inlet (48) and forces molten aluminium through outlet. First bearing (36) is adapted to support rotation of impeller (22) at first radial edge (32) and second bearing (38) is adapted to support rotation of impeller (22) at second radial edge (34). Bypass gap (60) is interposed between second bearing (38) and second radial edge (34).

EFFECT: molten metal leaks through bypass gap (60) at a predetermined rate to manipulate a flow rate and a head pressure of molten metal such that precise control of flow rate is achieved.
