FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method and apparatus for encoding/decoding of images for encoding with video signal compression using motion compensation. Disclosed is method of encoding images when signal (120) of input image is divided into processing units and encoding divided image to generate code sequence (140), besides, image encoding method includes steps of determining template separation for hierarchical division of signal (120) of input image in order, starting from maximum unit of processing units; separation information (131) is generated indicating separation template; and encoding of separation information (131), wherein separation information (131) includes information on maximum used depth of hierarchy (used_max_depth) indicating maximum used depth hierarchy, which is hierarchy of deepest depth processing unit from processing units included in pattern of separation.
EFFECT: high efficiency of encoding/decoding of division information, when screen is divided into different units.
