SUBSTANCE: invention relates to techniques of encoding/decoding images. Disclosed is a method of decoding images by arithmetic decoding. Method includes a step of determining a context for use in a current block, from among a plurality of contexts. Method then comprises performing arithmetic decoding on a bit sequence corresponding to current block, using determined context for decoding a binary sequence, wherein bit sequence is obtained by arithmetic coding with respect to a control parameter of current block. Method also includes reverse binarisation of binary sequence for decoding control parameter of current block.

EFFECT: high efficiency of encoding/decoding images.
