FIELD: optics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image capturing device for simultaneous implementation of phase difference automatic focusing (AF) and contrast AF. Device determines a shift amount of an image signal corresponding to a focus evaluation position for every exit pupil area. Device then generates an image corresponding to an image plane position by executing an arithmetic operation processing based on determined shift amount to image signal. Further, device calculates an evaluation value of a contrast of generated image, and calculates an evaluation value of a correlation between images corresponding to different exit pupil areas in generated image.

EFFECT: faster and more accurate focusing.
