SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of separating mixture containing ethylene glycol and 1,2-butanediol, which involves distillation of mixture with an azeotropic agent having following structural formula , where R1 is a H atom or alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms, R2 is a H atom or alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms, R3 is a H atom or alkyl containing 1-8 carbon atoms and R4 is a H atom or alkyl containing 1-8 carbon atoms. Distillation produces a material stream containing ethylene glycol and azeotropic agent, making said material stream fixed for disintegration, in order to separate a mixture rich in ethylene glycol, and then further distillation of said mixture to produce ethylene glycol.
EFFECT: proposed method enables to obtain ethylene glycol with high purity and high UV transmission.
