FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method consists in the sequential execution of the following stages: A) propylene is subjected to gas-phase oxidation using air on the heterogeneous catalyst in the presence of a diluting gas, B) acrolein-containing gas stream from step A) is sent to the stage of rapid cooling for the separation of byproducts, C) from the liquid present in the lower part of the stage of rapid cooling in step B), the residual amounts of acrolein are extracted by the desorption treatment of gas, D) the first part of the acrolein-containing gas stream from the stage of rapid cooling in step B) is sent to the stage of absorption in the presence of water to obtain an aqueous solution of acrolein, D1) non-condensable gas from step D) is at least partially returned as a diluting gas to the reaction stage in step A), E) acrolein by distillation in the distillation stage is separated from its aqueous solution from step D), E1) acrolein-containing distillate from step E) is condensed and fed into the reaction stage in step F). Another part of the acrolein-containing gas stream from the stage of rapid cooling in step B) is fed directly into the reaction stage in step F) to interact with metilmerkaptanom in the presence of 3-methylmercaptopropionic aldehyde. A version of the method for producing 3-methylmercaptopropionic aldehyde is also provided.

EFFECT: invention allows to obtain 3-methyl methylmercaptopropionic aldehyde with a high degree of purity and high yield.
