FIELD: nanotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to application of multi-layer coating on cutting tool and can be used in machining. First, a lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, intermediate layer of titanium and zirconium nitride compound is applied at their ratio, wt. %: titanium 76.0-82.0, zirconium 18.0-24.0. Method then includes applying a top layer of a nitride compound of titanium, silicon and zirconium in following ratio, wt%: 83.15-87.35 titanium, zirconium 12.0-16.0, silicon 0.65-0.85. Coating plies are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First cathode is made of titanium, second one is assembled from titanium and zirconium and located opposed to first and third is from titanium and silicon alloy and located between them. Lower layer is applied using first cathode, intermediate layer is applied using first and second cathodes, and upper layer is using all three cathodes. Then coating is treated with laser radiation with power density ranging from 34 to 42 kW/cm2.
EFFECT: result of application is higher cutting efficiency.
