FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on cutting tool and can be used in machining. Lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, intermediate layer of titanium and zirconium nitride compound is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 76.0-82.0, zirconium 18.0-24.0. Then upper layer of nitride of titanium, zirconium and aluminium is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 73.0-81.0, zirconium 12.0-16.0, aluminium 7.0-11.0. Coating plies are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First cathode is made of titanium, second one is assembled from titanium and zirconium and opposed to first, and third is from titanium and aluminium alloy and located between them. Then obtained coating is treated with laser radiation with power density of 34…42 kW/cm2.
EFFECT: higher crack resistance and strength of multi-layer coating, hence, higher cutting efficiency.
