FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on cutting tool and can be used in machining. Lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. After that, intermediate layer of titanium and zirconium nitride at their ratio, wt%: titanium 76.0-82.0, zirconium 18.0-24.0, on which upper layer of titanium, zirconium and niobium compound nitride is applied at their ratio, wt%: titanium 74.0-82.0, zirconium 12.0-16.0, niobium 6.0-10.0. Coating plies are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First cathode is made of titanium, second one is assembled from titanium and zirconium and located opposite to first one while third cathode is composed of titanium and niobium and located between them. Obtained coating is treated with laser radiation with power density of 38…46 kW/cm2.
EFFECT: improved crack resistance and strength of multi-layer coating and thus cutting tool efficiency.
