SUBSTANCE: invention relates to welding equipment and can be used for control proper attachment of welding electrode. Welding unit (10) has power source (15) with positive and negative terminals, to generate electric power supply and its supply to a welding electrode. Welding unit (10) also comprises control circuit (30), configured to determine proper attachment of welding electrode with positive and negative contacts of power source (15) by applying a test voltage to contacts of power supply, detecting voltages thereon and comparing detected voltages at contacts of power source.
EFFECT: higher efficiency and easy operation of welding unit.
