SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of magnetic fluid seals of rotating shafts, magnetic lubricants, in processes of magnetic concentration of nonmagnetic materials, in biology and medicine. In production of magnetic fluid from iron (III) oxid-hydroxide or goethite and oleic acid in the medium of alkenes at 300 °C iron (III) oleate is synthesized. Obtained iron (III) oleate is decarboxylated at the temperature of 300-340 °C to produce magnetite nanoparticles coated with a hydrocarbon stabilizer in the medium of alkene. As alkenes heptadecen-1 or octadecen-1 are used.

EFFECT: invention increases stability of magnetic fluid up to 6 months.
