FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production or reconditioning of rollers for supporting and transportation of hot material, particularly a steel workpiece produced by continuous casting on roller bed or in continuous casting plant. Shell of roller body is made from a base metal and a wearable layer is applied by deposition on base metal. After turning shell of roller, obtained surface is coated with a layer with minimum thickness of 3.5 mm by single-pass welding of welding filler wire of specified composition. Grind off layer deposition on closed uniform surface of shell of roller with preservation of minimum thickness of wearable layer with homogeneous chemical composition at level of 1.5 mm or more.
EFFECT: method provides longer service life of wearable layer, improved wear resistance and reduction of costs for building-up.
