FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and specifically to methods for standardisation of medicinal preparations, medicinal plant raw material, phytopreparations and biologically active additives based on content of tannin, gallic acid and quercetin, and can be used in pharmaceutical analysis, in chemical-pharmaceutical industry. Method of determining polyphenolic compounds by stepped elution in thin sorbent layer is characterised by that a sample of analysed preparation is treated with water while boiling in a water bath with subsequent stepped chromatography in two systems of solvents, treatment with 1 % alcohol solution of iron-ammonium alum and drying at temperature of 80 °C for 3-5 minutes prior to appearance of chromatographic zones; after appearance of chromatographic zones, plates are scanned by means of a flatbed scanner, and obtained images are processed with known computer program Sorbfil Videodensitometer, zones of polyphenol compounds are identified from specific value Rf and quantitative content of polyphenol compounds in sample is calculated.

EFFECT: high accuracy, possibility of simultaneous separation, identification and quantitative determination of polyphenolic compounds in medicinal preparations, plant material, phytopreparations and biologically active additives for food, as well as possibility of separation of complex mixtures and separation of polyphenolic compounds from other biologically active substances.
