FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of porous structures on the surface of articles from titanium or its alloy and can be used in making implants and dental titanium-based implants, for titanium implant surface preparation for applying biocompatible coatings, as well as for making catalyst supports and composite materials. Method involves formation on the surface of articles from titanium or its alloy a layer containing titanium carbide, followed by etching in nitric acid, herewith the said layer is formed by electric arc treatment of cathode-polarized titanium or its alloy using a moved over the treated surface graphite anode at the current of the arc discharge of at least 60 A in 0.1-0.2 % aqueous solution of NaCl, and the etching is performed in nitric acid with a concentration of not less than 10 wt% until complete dissolution of titanium carbide, then the treated surface is washed with water and dried in air.
EFFECT: increased thickness and porosity of the obtained on the surface of titanium or its alloy porous layer with simultaneous formation of a complex internal relief of the pores.
