FIELD: chemistry; packaging industry.
SUBSTANCE: article is a jar for food products or beverages or part thereof, which comprises: a metal substrate; and a coating disposed on at least a portion of metal substrate, which is formed from a coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a water- dispersible polyester polymer, which comprises a backbone chain having at least one heteroatom; and a side group that includes at least one salt group, wherein side group comprises a reaction product of an unsaturated compound having at least one salt or salt-forming group, that is attached to another portion of polymer via reaction of unsaturated compound with one or more double or triple bonds, with proviso that reaction of unsaturated compound with one or more double or triple bonds does not require participation of a free-radical initiator. Invention also relates to a method of producing a polymer, which includes providing unsaturated polyester precursor polymer, having number-average molecular weight of at least 2,000 and one or more double or triple carbon-carbon bonds; reacting in a Diels-Alder reaction, an Ene reaction, or a combination thereof: i) unsaturated compound, having at least one salt or salt-forming group, with ii) unsaturated polymer precursor so that a covalent bond is formed between unsaturated compound and unsaturated polymer precursor.
EFFECT: invention relates to polymers, intended for use in coating compositions, for example in aqueous compositions, used for coating packaging jars and containers.
