FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing isoprene by reacting an organic C4 compound and methylal in vapour phase on a fixed catalyst bed which is boron phosphate containing at least one oxide and/or a compound which can be easily decomposed to oxides, selected from a group comprising aluminium, magnesium, zinc and silicon, characterised by that the organic C4 compound used is tertiary butyl alcohol, the process is carried out in an apparatus, having at least one section filled with a catalyst, and the catalyst used further contains at least one oxide and/or a compound which can be easily decomposed to oxides, selected from a group comprising manganese, tungsten, tin, titanium and zirconium, with the following content of components, wt %: oxides and/or compounds easily decomposed to oxides, selected from a group comprising aluminium, magnesium, zinc and silicon 1.5-65; oxides and/or compounds easily decomposed to oxides, selected from a group comprising manganese, tungsten, tin, titanium and zirconium 0.1-28; boron phosphate - the rest.
EFFECT: use of the present method widens the raw material base, increases selectivity and increases periods between catalyst regeneration.
