FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to boron and compounds thereof, specifically to methods for synthesis of aluminium diboride, which is a promising energy material for rocket fuel. Aluminium diboride is obtained by high-temperature treatment of a mixture of powders of boron and aluminium in an inert atmosphere by preparing a mixture of aluminium powder with particle size of not more than 0.01 mm, with boron powder with particle size of not more than 0.001 mm with atomic ratio of components of 1:2.05 to 1:2.1; formation of briquettes from obtained mixture with maximum size of not more than 22 mm and minimum size of not less than 2 mm and porosity of not more than 44 %; further placing briquettes in atmosphere of a neutral gas; heating to temperature of 100-500 °C; igniting heated mixture by local heating of part of its surface to temperature of 950-1,150 °C; and synthesis of aluminium diboride in mode of layer-by-layer burning at a temperature of 820-920 °C.

EFFECT: invention allows at minimal consumption of electric energy to obtain a practically single-phase product containing more than 95 wt% AlB2.
