SUBSTANCE: invention relates to power industry and can be used to determine a short circuit location on power transmission lines with a lightning protection cable by measurements from two ends thereof. Core: measured on both ends of the line are non-synchronized by the corners complex phase currents and voltages of the main frequency at the moment of a short circuit, measured is the angle between similar voltages on the line ends, for example, decrabbed are voltages and currents vectors on the other end by the measured angle, calculated is the relative value of distance to the sort circuit location using values of capacitive phase and interphase conductivities, values of full phase and interphase resistances of the line with account of the cable when using currents and voltages of the cable.

EFFECT: higher accuracy of determining a short circuit location.
