FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of improving selectivity of epoxidation process and a method of producing 1,2-diol, 1,2-diol ether, 1,2-carbonate or alkanolamine. Method of improving selectivity of epoxidation process involves: (a) contacting a catalyst layer containing a highly selective silver-containing catalyst on a substrate for a period of initiation of process, following a starting step, with supplied gas, having concentration of ethylene (E1), concentration of oxygen (O1), concentration of carbon dioxide (C1) lower than 2.0 vol%. and concentration of chloride moderator (M1), achieving required intensity of operation, which will lead to creation of a first operating temperature of catalyst T1, which is less than 240 °C; (b) adjusting loaded composition by reducing concentration of ethylene to new limiting level E2<E1; and/or reducing oxygen concentration to a new limiting level O2<O1, and/or raising concentration of carbon dioxide to a new limiting level C2>C1, and/or adjusting concentration of chloride moderator or to higher, or to a lower level in order to take catalyst to a high operating temperature T2 for a specific highly selective catalyst, while still being used at a specific required intensity of operation during said period of initiation of process, where T2 is 5-30 °C higher than T1; and (c) gradual adjustment of loaded composition as catalyst activity naturally falls, with maintaining of required intensity of operation and operating temperature T2 by raising level of ethylene, and/or raising level of oxygen and/or lowering carbon dioxide level, and/or by adjusting moderator composition.
EFFECT: technical result is high selectivity of epoxidation process.
