FIELD: fire safety.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to extinguishing fires inside a rolling stock (diesel locomotive) body. Method for reserve extinguishing fires on diesel locomotives includes the diesel engine shutdown, de-energizing the high-voltage chamber, increasing water pressure in the diesel engine cooling system. To increase water pressure in the diesel engine cooling system used is compressed air from tanks of the feed main line of the diesel locomotive pneumatic system. Compressed air pressure is reduced down to 0.3…0.5 MPa and directed to the diesel engine hot water cooling circuit and the cold water cooling circuit of oil and supercharging air, where the water pressure is increased, which is then fed into a dosing tank with foam agents and to a foam generator to form mechanically mixed air-water foam.

EFFECT: proposed method for reserve extinguishing fires on a diesel locomotive enables reliable and efficient extinguishing fires.
