FIELD: metal processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of hybrid laser/arc welding for butt welding of an article made from stainless steel. In the joint part welding is performed by directing laser radiation and an arc discharge along the same welding line so that the laser welding is followed by TIG arc welding. Focus point of the laser beam for laser welding takes a position above the article to be welded. Laser beam is defocused to the diameter of the laser beam directed at the article to be welded, not less than 1mm. Interval between the laser radiation position at laser welding and the arc discharge position at TIG arc welding ranges from 3 to 7 mm.

EFFECT: method of welding increases the speed of welding up to approximately 20 m/min with obtaining a suture with good configurations and without welding defects, such as gas blowholes.
