FIELD: instrument making.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to instrument making and can be used in devices and systems of positioning and navigation providing the tasks of cartographic positioning. For this purpose provided is obtaining the user initial coordinate; obtaining a predetermined number of images of the environment within a preset geographic range corresponding to the initial coordinate, and obtaining an absolute coordinate corresponding to each image of the environment from a preset relation of correspondence between different images of the environment and different absolute coordinates; obtaining a relative position between an object on the image of the environment and the user for each image of the environment; and determining information of the user geographic position basing on the relative position and the absolute coordinate. In the method embodiments the user geographic position information can be formed without installation of hardware, such as a gyroscope or an electronic compass, inside the electronic device, thus decreasing weight, dimensions and cost of producing the electronic device.
