FIELD: mixed reality systems.

SUBSTANCE: present invention is related to a method and system for determining the location and orientation of a user's device in augmented, mixed and advanced mixed reality systems. A method for determining the location and orientation of a user's device includes the steps of: determining the initial location and orientation of the user's device; capturing images of the real environment using an image capture module, building a depth map of the real environment, and extracting from the image of the real environment and/or the depth map an array of natural environment marks representing features of the real environment; save the collected array of natural environmental markers along with their coordinates; move the user's device and at the same time track its movement in the real environment based on collected natural environmental cues.

EFFECT: increase of speed, accuracy and reliability of determining the location and orientation of the device.
