FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of shipbuilding, in particular, to a semi-submersible floating offshore structures for drilling and hydrocarbon production. A semi-submersible floating offshore structure with columns having a large base at the bottom of each column with pontoons connected between the columns. Larger basis of the column may have a height which at least may be about 50% of the draft floating offshore structure. The increased base may change the shape of the current flow around the base and columns to provide a smaller displacement caused by vortex. The outer base angle may be cut at an angle. Alternatively, the lower portions of columns may extend horizontally outward to form effectively larger base having similar characteristics. In some embodiments the volume of the pontoon may be reduced inversely proportionally to the ground to have a similar overall buoyancy.
EFFECT: invention provides an improvement in the performance of the semi-submersible floating offshore structure.
