FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, namely, to a method for producing 4(5)-nitroimidazole, comprising imidazole nitration with sodium nitrate in sulphuric acid during heating, followed by cooling down, reaction mix neutralisation, and recovery of the target product; the reagent ratio is as follows: imidazole/H2SO4/NaNO3 - 0.15:0.82:0.3, therefore 25% aqueous ammonia is used for neutralisation to achieve pH 10, the recovered product is refined by recrystallisation from water.
EFFECT: new method for producing 4(5)-nitroimidazole, an important compound used for synthesis of medicinal products; the method is characterised by high yield of the target product, improved process and its implementation, reduced energy and heat demand.
