FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of obtaining 2-methyl-4(5)-nitroimidazole, which includes nitration of 2-methylimidazole with sodium nitrate in the presence of sulphuric acid with heating, cooling with the following neutralisation of a reaction mixture and separation of the target product, characterised by the fact that nitration of the reaction mixture is carried out with a ratio of 2-methylimidazole/H2SO4/NaNO3 1:4/5:2.2 respectively, and neutralisation of the reaction mixture is performed with a 25% water solution of ammonia to pH= 8-9, after separation of the target product recrystallisation of the latter from water with the following stand is carried out.
EFFECT: elaboration of the novel method of the compound obtaining, characterised by the higher output of the target product and application of simple equipment in the neutration process.
