FIELD: physics, acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to detect transversely oriented defects during ultrasonic scanning of an article with a reflecting bottom. The method comprises placing two multi-element ultrasonic transducers on the surface of the article to be inspected in a predetermined position, emitting and detecting ultrasonic echo pulses, reconstructing a plurality of partial images, obtaining an image of defects, using multiple paths from the emitting transducer to the receiving transducer with reflection from the bottom and the surface, summing the reconstructed partial images for each transducer position.
EFFECT: invention enables to detect planar defects at depth equal to half the thickness of the article and which do not reach the bottom or surface of the article in order to improve accuracy of ultrasonic inspection.
