FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: titanium-steel adapter is produced by diffusion welding under a hot isostatic pressing using intermediate copper foil inserts from the steel side and niobium foil inserts from the titanium side. The copper foil thickness to the niobium foil thickness ratio is 1.5-3.0. Copper and niobium foil is placed in a closed slot made in the steel blank with walls around the perimeter, then a part of the titanium blank is inserted into it. Hot isostatic pressing modes are selected on the condition of obtaining a diffusion-free layer in the copper interlayer with thickness of not less than 0.3 mm, and in the niobium interlayer - at least 0.15 mm. At simultaneous pressing of several blanks, the separating surfaces are pre-coated with antiadhesion coating.

EFFECT: method eliminates titanium interaction with iron and copper and provides for obtaining a titanium-steel combination with full integrity, stable mechanical properties due to maintaining intermediate inserts ductility, absence of brittle intermetallic and eutectic interlayers and carbide phases.
