FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the analytical chemistry and can be used in medicine, agriculture, environmental monitoring. According to the invention, method of determining the thiols is carried out using stripping voltammetry in 3M NaOH solution in the presence of silver ions in a solution with 4⋅10-5…8⋅10-5 M concentration in the solution, test portion is injected containing from 3⋅10-8 to n⋅10-5 M thiols, the solution is being stirred for 10-30 s, +0.05 V electrolysis potential is being applied on a silver electrode for 60 s. Thiols are concentrated on the surface of the silver electrode as a partially soluble complex compound, then voltammogram is recorded at a linear potential sweep of 5 mV / s. Dissolving of the silver thiolates peak is observed at a potential of -0.98 V and linearly depends on the thiols concentration in aqueous solutions.
EFFECT: invention enables to reduce the lower bound of determined content and use ecologically clean silver electrode.
