SUBSTANCE: invention relates to lighting device for embedding data symbols of an information signal into a luminance output of an illumination device. Device includes a light-emitting diode (LED), comprising at least two segments, which have a common electrode and are configured for individual control. LED is configured to generate output luminance signal in response to a drive signal. Device also includes a controller, configured for connection or disconnection of one of segments in response to information signal, in order to embed data symbols of information signal into output light signal of device.

EFFECT: easier embedding of data into output light signal.
