SUBSTANCE: for ultrasonic detection of cracks on the operating railhead fillet. The invention includes installation of two electroacoustic transducers on the rail rolling surface, the transducers are directed mirror-like relative to the cross-sectional plane so that the ultrasonic probe signal of each transducer got to the top railhead fillet after reflection from the bottom fillet falling, the railhead is probed by moving the electroacoustic transducers along the rail, emitting probing signals and receiving the ultrasound signals reflected from the top railhead fillet in the respective reception time window, ultrasonic signals reflected from the bottom railhead fillets are additionally received in the respective time windows, reception sensitivity of each electroacoustic transducer in all time windows is constantly chosen to receive signals from metallurgic inequalities on the bottom railhead fillet, the conclusion on presence and orientation of microcracks on the top railhead fillet is made based on the combined analysis of signals received by the electroacoustic transducers.
EFFECT: invention provides increased probability of detection and orientation determination of microcracks on the operating railhead fillet.
