FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to substance physical properties research, in particular to study of processes in gas-discharge devices and plasma. Between electrodes at fixed distance between them voltage is applied, resulting current melts and evaporates thin wire, which is arranged between electrodes, distance from cathode to anode is selected such, whereby discharge does not spontaneously occur without wire, and between electrodes are created conditions for discharge gap avalanche breakdown, which occurs in presence of evaporating wire vapors in air. At that, when voltage is supplied to discharge gap channel is formed on cathode created by molten metal heat cumulative jet, outgoing from cathode and wire contact point. Effect of magnetic field directed perpendicular to channel direction changes channel direction.
EFFECT: possibility of molten metal thermal cumulative jet direction controlling and channel on metal cathode formed by it in pulse arc discharge during explosion of wire between electrodes under effect of magnetic field transverse to channel direction.
